If you’re looking for motivation to get fit in 2018, how about entering a gorgeous rural 10km race? The Chew Valley 10k is sponsored by Debbie Fortune Estate Agents and is now open for entries. It takes place on Sunday 10 June 2018 at 9.30am, starting at Bishop Sutton Football Club (BS39 5XN) near Chew Valley lake.
Now in its sixth year, the race follows a scenic route around the Chew Valley and each year attracts over 700 runners of all abilities to run along mostly traffic-free country lanes. There is a short yet challenging hill, following which runners are rewarded with fantastic countryside views and a fast downhill finish.
Last year’s event was won by Graham Wadsworth (36:23) who ran in support of St Peter’s Hospice. This charity is one of the fundraising event’s main beneficiaries, alongside Blood Bikes NICU Support (supporting premature babies and their families across the South West’s hospitals), Bishop Sutton Primary School Society and Chew Valley School Society.
Entry costs £18.50 (£16.50 for club runners) and the fee includes a free technical T shirt, event medal and photo download. The race is chip-timed and licensed by UK Athletics and besides the usual event categories, runners may enter as a team to win the Team Trophy.
In addition to the 10km race, children aged 4-14 years can enter a 1km race (entry fee £5) which takes place immediately after the 10km race finish. As it’s a World Cup football year, children are invited to run dressed as their favourite footballer! Visit www.chewvalley10k.co.uk to enter either race or follow the event on Facebook and Twitter @Chewvalley10k.
For anyone looking to get into running there are still places left on the TryActive 8-week beginners’ running course, starting on 26 February at 9.30am, see tryactive.org.uk for information.
