The Chew Valley 10k & 1k Rainbow Run promises to be a colourful and fun-filled family day out

“Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue…” Children aged 4 to 14 years can now enter this year’s Chew Valley 1k fun run, which for the first time will be a ‘rainbow run’ – promising fun, laughter and mess in equal measure!

The third Chew Valley 10k and 1k Rainbow Run takes place on Sunday 21st June 2015, beginning with the scenic yet challenging 10km race at 9.30am, followed by the 1km children’s fun run at 11.30am.

As they run the new off-road 1km route, up to 250 children will be squirted with an array of coloured powders (which are 100% biodegradable, natural and totally safe) whilst being cheered on by friends and family.

Entry is in advance only and costs £4 per child, which includes a free white t-shirt, medal and goody bag. Please see www.chewvalley10k.co.uk for details.

The Chew Valley 10k and 1k Rainbow Run is sponsored by Debbie Fortune Estate Agents based in Chew Magna and Wrington (www.debbiefortune.co.uk), and will this year raise funds for local charities that support the region’s premature babies and NHS hospitals: Bloodbikes Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Support (www.nicusupport.co.uk) and Above and Beyond (www.aboveandbeyond.org.uk), as well as fundraising for Bishop Sutton Primary School’s PTA.

Race Director, Ann Booker, said: “Whatever your age or ability, the Chew Valley 10k and 1k Rainbow Run is about getting the whole family active, while having fun and raising as much money for charity and the local community as possible.”

Mark Scrutton, the British 10km record holder (until beaten by Mo Farah in 2009) ran the race in 2013 and put in a great time of 39:41 minutes, commenting: “I thoroughly enjoyed the Chew Valley 10k. It offers something for everyone, whether you are a plodder or club runner and the rural route is just gorgeous, which distracts you from the challenging hill. It is one of the best-organised and most enjoyable 10k events I’ve ever run in.”

Chew Valley 10k entry is open to runners aged 15 years and over, costing £17 (or £15 for runners affiliated to a UK Athletics club). Over 350 runners have already entered the race (max. 700 entries), which is licensed by British Athletics, chip-timed and professionally measured. Race Headquarters for 2015 is Bishop Sutton Village Hall and its playing field, where the mass warm up (led by Ross Elliot), refreshments, a barbeque, entertainment and the children’s 1k Rainbow Run will all take place.
